What Is the Best Diet for Preventing Colon Cancer?

What would happen just two weeks after changing the diets of Americans to those of healthier people?

Colon cancer is our second leading cause of cancer death, but some places, like rural Africa, have rates more than ten times lower than we have in the United States. How do we know it’s not genetic? “Studies on immigrants, such as those of Japanese Hawaiians, have proven that it only takes one generation for the immigrant population to assume the incidence of colon cancer of the Western host population.” The change in diet is considered «probably responsible for this», but all kinds of changes occur when moving from one culture to another. «For example, cigarettes, chemicals, infections and antibiotics could be equally responsible for the change in colon cancer risk.» You don’t know if it’s the diet until you try it.

It’s rare that I do an entire video on a single study, but I think you’ll agree with the one I cover in The best diet for colon cancer prevention it’s worth it. An international group of researchers was trying to figure discovered why colon cancer rates were an order of magnitude higher in African Americans and Caucasians in the United States than in rural South Africans. As you can see below and at minute 1:09 in my videoif you look in American colons, they are a mess with polyps and diverticulosis, not to mention hemorrhoids, while African colons were «remarkably pristine.» More importantly, Africans had seven times lower rates of colonic epithelial proliferation, a hallmark of precancerous conditions. The researchers measured everything the study participants ate and concluded that the increased colorectal cancer risk and proliferation rates in African Americans were most closely «associated with higher dietary intake of animal products and higher colonic populations of potentially toxic hydrogen.» . [acid] and secondary bile salt-producing bacteria.”

When tested, it was found that higher rates of colon cancer were associated with a higher intake of animal proteins and fats, a lower fiber consumption, more bad bile acids, less good short chain fatty acids such as butyrate and greater mucosal proliferation. But how do we know that diet is what’s ruining things? We don’t do it, until an intervention study is done.

How about we change their diets? Feed Americans a high-fiber African-style diet and provide rural Africans with the standard American diet. On the first day of the experiment, rural Africans were given sausages and white flour pancakes for breakfast, a hamburger and French fries for lunch, and some meatloaf and white rice for dinner, while African Americans They ate fruits, vegetables, corn and beans. To help with compliance, the researchers included some more familiar foods, such as vegetarian dogs. However, keep in mind that this was not a vegan diet, but was generally plant-based. You can see the menu for day one below and at 2:31 on my video.

Also, keep in mind that food exchanges They were not during years. They only exchanged for two weeks. Could changes be seen so quickly? In fact, the dietary changes «resulted in notable reciprocal changes» in the participants’ colon lining in terms of cancer risk and their microbiome. The shift to a more plant-based diet boosted fiber fermentation and suppressed the synthesis of carcinogenic bile acids. The researchers took biopsies and looked under a microscope at the colon lining of African Americans. Before the diet change, the colon lining was in overdrive with rapidly dividing cells, a sign of premalignancy that is a risk factor for cancer. But, after just two weeks of eating a healthier diet, his colons calmed down. You can see some before and after photos below and at 3:07 in my video. The brown dots on the before The photo of African Americans represents dividing cells. In it after photo, have almost disappeared. In contrast, rural Africans began there was some proliferation, but it got worse in the American diet.

Down and at 3:44 on me video, you may also see a different marker that measures inflammation. Each of the brown dots represents an inflammatory cell. In African Americans, there are was Widespread inflammation in their typical diet subsided after just two weeks on a healthier diet, and the opposite was true for rural Africans who switched to the standard American diet.

We know that when our friendly flora ferments fiber, it produces beneficial compounds like butyrate, which is anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer. «Impressively, ‘Africanization’ of the diet» more than doubled butyrate production, increasing the total amounts, «while ‘Westernization’ reduced the amounts by half.» And in terms of toxic metabolites, there was a significant drop in the healthier diet, while the standard American «meatloaf» diet increased levels of these carcinogens by 400 percent in just two weeks. So the bottom line is that by simply changing the foods you eat, you can markedly change your risk. In fact, this is what the main researcher said. «O’Keefe’s advice is simple,»change Your diet changes your cancer risk!’” It may never be too late to start eating healthier.

Based on this type of data, “adopting “A vegan or near-vegan diet based on whole foods, rich in fruits and vegetables, exercising regularly, and avoiding tobacco, could have a surprisingly positive impact on cancer risks not only for black Americans but for all people.” The researchers concluded: «While it would be unrealistic to expect rapid and profound lifestyle changes in the general population, it is gratifying to be able to offer sound and effective advice to those who are willing to take the necessary steps to optimize their healthy longevity.»

This is the tracking of The best foods for colon cancer prevention. As I mentioned, it’s rare that I do an entire video on a single study, but I hope you’ll agree that this one is worth your time.
