BREAKING: Trump Nominates Susan Monarez as CDC Director

On Monday, President Trump announced the nomination of Susan Monarez, the interim director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to direct the agency permanently. Trump took out his first candidate, Dr. Dave Weldon, just a few hours before his confirmation hearing.

«If the Senate confirms it, Dr. Monarez, an infectious disease researcher, will be the first non -doctor to direct the agency in more than 50 years,» New York Times Reporteros Supporta Mandavilli and Sheryl Gay Stolberg wrote March 24.

Newsweek Gabe Whisnant and Adeola Adeosun reported that Monaz has held several positions within the United States government. She served as deputy director of the Agency for Advanced Health Research Projects (ARPA-H) and also played roles in the National Security Department and the White House and Technology Policy Office.

Whisnant and Adeosun explained that this nomination is remarkable, since Monaz would be the first director of the CDC to require the confirmation of the Senate after a change of law in 2022. «The previous directors could assume leadership immediately after the presidential appointment without this process.»

In Publication on social networks in Social truth, Trump said Monaz will work in close collaboration with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who leads the Department of Human Health and Services (HHS).
