Five Years Later • Kath Eats

Almost five years have passed since we started using Blue APON as our main meal plan. Here are my thoughts about a review of the blue apron, the pros and cons, and why we subscribe. Disclosure: This publication is sponsored by Blue apronBut I have been a subscriber that pays for years.

Putting a food together after night can often feel endless. There is Studies that show How often planning weekly meals can lead to stressed families. Meal delivery services like Blue APON take a lot of the stress of their dish (ha!) Delivering the recipes and ingredients to their door. The convenience does not end there: it will save time without having to go shopping, obtain the benefits of cooking at home and having less food waste because it will use all the ingredients in its entirety.

Blue APON has remained my favorite meal delivery service for years. I tried it for the first time for more than 10 years in 2014. Much has changed since then! While it began more as a more elegant food experience inspired by the chef (perfect for a nighttime appointment), these days Blue APON is the flexible food service ideal for all types of people.

After using Blue APON for so many years, here is my latest Blue APON review post, including pros and cons and how we use it to save us a lot of time! If you are ready to try it, get the last promotion here!

Blue apron review

What is Blue APON?

Founded in 2012 in New York City, Blue apron It is a subscription -based meal kit service that offers recipes and ingredients directly to your door to cook at home. Its objective is to make healthy eating and homemade foods easy and fun. They strive to offer ingredients of the highest quality and are associated with farmers and sustainability experts to ensure that we receive real foods.

How does Blue APon work?

The process of ordering through the blue apron is very easy and without stress. First, be sure to subscribe using my Promotional link! (It will save $ 80 in the first 5 weeks of a new subscription at this time). He also knows that any selection you do, can change! Do you want to move from 2 to 4 people, change your types of recipes or change how many recipes get every week? Everything is very easy to do online or in its application. You can also easily omit a week if you travel or cannot cook that week.

1. Choose your preferred food type

Choose between food kit and the prepared line recipes (keep in mind that you can now mix and combine them!).

2. Select your recipe preferences

If you want to configure and forget your recipes and make the blue apron choose for you, start by selecting a recipe style to focus (chef favorites, family, fast and easy, vegetarians, etc.), but keep in mind that you can always choose your own recipes. If you forget, they will choose for you. 15 minutes meals are also constantly in our order because they save a lot of time with precooked ingredients such as pasta or meat. Blue APON offers more than 100 weekly options.

3. Select your plan

Choose between 2 and 4 portions and if you want 2, 3, 4 or 5 recipes per week. We always make the four portions and cook once, we eat twice! We also make two recipes per week for a total of 4 blue apron food nights.

Once you put all that information, recipes and ingredients are sent directly to your door. Recipe cards are very well written and easy to follow. It is worth clinging if you ever wanted to recreate a certain meal later.

4. Choose recipes and add ons

Once you have logged down and subscribed, you can choose your recipes for each week, as well as any complement you want for a small aggregate cost. They offer breakfast and lunch, soups, desserts and additional proteins.

What are the pros and cons of the blue apron?

Pros

Convenience

The blue apron food kits have saved us a million hours of time. Our food plan is predictable and consistent. Collect recipes on the web before the edible store is executed used to be the most difficult part of food planning for me, and the inconsistency of the recipes can make cooking a bet. The blue apron recipes are always so well written, and in five years I have not had one «does not work.»

In between you are entered

Since Blue APON is in charge of dinner, our grocery trips are only for breakfast and basic lunches. This saves us a lot of time since we know where all the basic concepts are in our grocery store and can enter and leave much more efficiently. No more search for strange ingredients. For our last kitchen night, we will plan a friendly meal for children such as homemade pizza or spaghetti.

Cook once, eat twice

I love having a plan and being able to look forward and know what is in the menu for every day. I divide in two pieces: Prepare and cook. Step 20 minutes during the day to prepare vegetables and sauces and study the recipe, and the other 10-20 minutes at dinner time to run the dish. Another way in which we maximize the blue apron is to order the option of four portions and have two nights in a row. It is the best time savings because we not only save in cooking time, but there are also fewer dishes to clean on those nights.

Strategically plan our schedule in the longest «days of cooking» compared to the days we know we will have leftovers. On one night, we could have a late class of gymnastics, one of us in the city or the practice of football for children.

Variety

My honest opinion: The blue apron recipes are first category! There is always an additional layer of flavor/sauce/coverage that I would not have thought to add if it was only joining ingredients. They constantly add new recipes to their collection, so we never get bored (but sometimes we repeat our favorites!).

Portion size

The blue apron portions are perfect for us. We can often get a fifth meal of the 4 portions kit if Mazen likes what we are cooking (maybe Birch will enjoy adult food when he has 40 🙂). When we tried other food kits companies, I did not find that the portions were so abundant. Often a vegetable or carbohydrates were missing. Blue APON recipes are very well balanced with vegetables, carbohydrates and proteins in each recipe.

Cons

Price

The average cost of the blue apron is $ 9.99 per recipe. He is paying a little more for comfort and no, it is not as cheap as bulk meal planning. But about what bureas (ha!) In dollars, desire in time. What is your time? For us, the service is well worth the cost. And it is definitely cheaper than food and healthier than fast food.

Packaging

This scam will be inevitable with any food subscription service. Since the ingredients enter by mail in an ice package, there is a packaging to recycle. In addition, the small containers enter the ingredients. However, Blue APON has really tried to plan this with sustainability in mind, and when the packaging can be minimized and recyclable, it is. I reuse the boxes all the time for a goodwill or a friend who needs to move.

Local

Living in Virginia, we are surrounded by local farms, vineyards, breweries, etc. And we always try to buy and eat local whenever we can to support our Virginian companions. Therefore, ordering Blue APON obviously will not allow you to buy locally. However, Blue APON works with small farmers and food suppliers, such as Vermont Creamery, Sun Noodle, Reeves Farms and Rumi Spice. Then you can know that you are still supporting small businesses.

Is it worth Blue APON?

A summary yes. We have been using Blue APON for years and we would not continue to pay the subscribers if not! It has really simplified our domestic routines, and the new 15 -minute food option has changed the game to prepare dinner even faster than if we were planning everything from scratch.

We still enjoy cooking other creative meals in our nights 5/6, and we definitely ask for less food to carry what we did before Blue APon began. If there is a blue apron meal in the refrigerator, we do not allow leaving, so we have easily saved money to take over time.
