HIMSS25: AI in the Behavioral Healthcare Field

In the HIMSS25 Preconference Behavior Health Forum on March 3 in Las Vegas, a panel of experts working for the Institute of Excellence and Clinical Innovation of Centerstone discussed artificial intelligence (AI).

Tyler Roebke, CCO, began mentioning the challenges of recruiting staff in the field of behavior health. He said that trying to work with doctors more efficiently, taking into account the cases of cases and documentation, led them to AI solutions.

«The AI offers some novel approaches where perhaps the existing technology has provided a satisfactory solution,» said Bradley Bills, vice president of systems development. “It is not for the good of AI; It’s about advancing our business and solving real problems facing our staff. «

We needed to update our electronic health records (EHR), Ashley Newton, CEO, intervened. «We knew we had a problem with the documentation burden.» He continued a more intuitive system, combined with AI that helped with the documentation, was well received by the staff.

For the tools we are implementing, they are all optional, Bills said. «They are there to make recommendations, but the staff is still completely responsible for the decision to use them.»

AI is not a replacement for clinical judgment, Newton stressed. The organization needs to establish limits and policies around the use of AI, Roebke declared. «There really is no law that says that you must obtain someone’s consent to use an AI tool,» said Newton who analyzes how suppliers incorporate and anticipate research related to AI.
