How To Beat The Winter Blues • Kath Eats

Winter months are sometimes difficult to overcome mentally. When I put myself in summer mode, my mood increases. Here are my advice on how to overcome winter blues, including light therapy and a tropical mentality.

Retirement planners always ask you «What is your retirement dream?»

Some could say that playing golf every day, traveling to the corners of the world, immersed in hobbies such as painting (Like mom!), Or simply enjoy the houses of the home with a book and tea without the stress of work.

In my ideal life, my winters would happen somewhat warm and sunny.

The bones hurt by the warmth of the sun at this time of year. Shorter days, lack of sunlight, too much illness. While I think the movement helps a lot (such as winter walks and winter sports), this season is too long in general. (Me too know Some of you live in much colder places for much longer. I don’t know how you do it!) I start to yearn for the longest days of spring and summer in the second that the new year begins.

The years that have been possible, so we have traveled to Santa Lucia and the keys in the coldest months. Nothing increases your mood as a literal sun. But in the years that you cannot travel for any reason, how do you channel that warm sun on your face?

Seasonal affective disorder

I think I have a tendency towards seasonal depression. Seasonal, or sad affective disorder is also known as Winter depression. People with SAD can have symptoms that mimic depression. While doctors are not exactly sure of the reason why some people experience sad, pose the hypothesis that the lack of daylight in autumn and winter affects the circadian rhythm of the body. Serotonin (happy hormone) and melatonin (sleep hormone) are often also out of balance. (Me too I just started taking this CBD To see if that helps my mood!)

SAD symptoms

  • Lack of energy
  • withdraw from social situations
  • Changes in sleep schedule, which can mean sleeping more or less than usual
  • Feel sad, low or desperate

The best treatment for SAD is light therapy

People find 30 minutes of light therapy to really improve their mood. This could mean sunlight, but if the sun is hidden behind the clouds, a light therapy lamp can help. There are many different in the marketAnd they are not too expensive. Spend time under the bright lights, close the eyes and imagine the true warm sun. Does any of you have one?

In addition to light therapy, add the summer routine in the winter deceives the mind in a summer atmosphere

So, I thought, if I can’t go to the Caribbean, I will bring the Caribbean!

Plan a summer vacation, using travel points!

If you have tried everything and it seems that you cannot beat the winter blues, reserve a summer trip. The best way to do it? Use travel rewards of the credit card points (my favorite way to travel!). I have a complete blog post on how to travel using credit card points and our credit card strategy to obtain travel rewards. I also have a blog post that compares Capital Credit One vs. cards. Chase (Spoiler: We both have!).
