21-day Dr. Cabral detox recap and recipes

I’m sharing a full recap of my first 21-day detox, how I felt, what I learned, and whether I would do it again. Check out my full review! I also created a freebie with 21 Days of Detox Recipes if you would like to download it (details below).

Hello friends! How are you? I hope you had a great weekend! Ours was great. I feel like I caught up on life (laundry, housework, shopping) and also took a couple classes, had an amazing dinner with friends and also met up with family for lunch. I hope you had a great time too!!

For today’s post, I wanted to share a summary of my 21 day detox experience! I love doing the EquiLife Detox four times a year. It helps maintain liver pathways, I always feel GREAT when I do this and it has become part of my health routine. Please note that I am only sharing my experience and this is not medical information. Before continuing with any new exercise or nutrition routine, always consult with your doctor.

As you know, I have been dealing with some inflammation issues since last spring. It started with my eyes (which was a long, painful mystery, and thank goodness, it was solved), and in the process, I got a couple of markers that came back positive for lupus. I share more of my story in this podcast episode.

In addition to working with my primary care, I have been doing some functional labs on myself. I had a feeling that I had some gut problems (since gut problems can manifest in different ways and contribute to autoimmune symptoms, as well as allergies, brain fog, fatigue, digestive problems, decreased immune system function, bad mood, lack of sleep, etc.). .) And sure enough, I had an overgrowth of yeast and bacteria.

This is what page 1 of my OAT test looked like, which is extremely comprehensive. It also gave me information about nutrient deficiencies and neurotransmitter levels.

(Please note that functional laboratories do not treat, diagnose, prevent or cure any type of disease or illness. They are used as a tool to discover deficiencies and toxicities so that you can work to restore balance to the body. After performing a couple of tests, I feel empowered with an action plan).

Dr. Cabral’s 21-Day Detox Summary and Recipes

So now I’m working on some specific protocols (I can share more information if you’re interested), but the first step before the protocols is a detox, to help ensure your body’s detox pathways are open. (You can read more about this specific detox and how it works in this post.)

We have a 7, 14, and 21 day detox, and I knew I wanted to do the 21 day option.

While it was a long time, it went by quickly and I also found it easier than I expected (with a couple of modifications).

I finished the 21 days and I feel like a different person. It reset my habits, helped me sleep, decreased my sugar cravings, and my energy has been surprisingly amazing. Before the detox, I had a caffeinated coffee or tea in the afternoon to give myself a little boost and I don’t need it anymore. I also often wake up before my alarm goes off, something that was unheard of before the detox.

This is how the The 21-day version of the detox works:

– It’s the same format as the 7-day version, but you complete the 7-day process for three weeks total.

This is how the week is organized:

Dr. Cabral Detox Modifications

There are also many ways to modify the detox. You can skip the fasting days and just move to the days 3-7 format. You can do one fast day instead of two. You can complete the fasting days each week, or do them only during the first week. It’s really about staying within a framework, but adapting as necessary.

Some people need extra fuel and protein, which is totally fine (and recommended) to add. It is important to remember that this detox is not intended for weight loss, although many people end up losing weight in the process. The intention is to provide the B vitamins, vitamin C, antioxidants, amino acids and minerals that the liver needs to do its job. You can become overwhelmed by toxins from our environment and foods, and this detoxification provides the nutrients you need to function at your optimal capacity.

Here’s how I modified the detox:

– I only did two days of total fasting during the 21 days. My body was already under significant stress (before the detox, I had many weeks without sleep or uninterrupted sleep due to eye problems), so I didn’t want to add too much to my stress bucket. I also ate berries during the fasting days and included additional protein during the remaining days. I ate extra servings of protein at dinner and added some to soup or salad for lunch. I ate sardines and vegetables with hummus if I was hungry in the afternoon.

– I added a few condiments that aren’t necessarily in the plan, including Tamari, a splash of balsamic vinegar here and there, and some Kevin’s sauces. I definitely wasn’t *perfect* all the time, but I still got amazing results and feel like I made it work for my life, especially since it was a longer period of time.

– I often made a *pudding* with my Daily Nutritional Support powder, using less water, a little cinnamon, and topped it with berries. It’s a tasty way to change things up if you get tired of smoothies.

I would do it again?

1000000%. I don’t think I’ll do the 21 day detox every time, but possibly once a year I’ll do the longer version. The difference between this and the 7-day detox is significant, and that says a lot, because I love the 7-day version.
